When Daytime Saving Time Begins And Ends
Daylight time or Daylight saving time (DST) in the United States and Summertime in the United Kingdom, European Union, and others is a practice of advancing clocks during summer months so that you get more daylight in the evening.
Regions that use daylight saving time adjust their clocks one hour forward in spring and one hour backward in the autumn.
Daylight saving time begins on the Second Sunday of March and ends on the First Sunday of November.
What is Daylight Saving Time?
Daylight Saving Time is moving the clock one hour forward in spring while moving the clock one hour backward in Autumn. The aim is to make use of daylight longer in the evening during winters. Daylight saving time is used by over 70 countries worldwide whereas the beginning and end dates vary from country to country.
Daylight Saving Time or DST is the term used in Canada and the United States while European countries use the term Summer Time. The time observed during the rest time of the year is called Standard Time. Presently Hawaii and Arizona are the only two U.S. states that do not observe daylight saving time.
History of Day Light Saving Time
Benjamin Franklin published the proverb “early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise“, he proposed a change in sleep schedules. DST hadn’t started by that time, it was Germany who established DST in May 1916 as a way to conserve fuel during World War I.
The rest of Europe came on board shortly thereafter. And in 1918, the United States adopted daylight saving time. Fewer than 40 percent of countries follow daylight saving time but researchers have proved that more daylight in the evening is more helpful.
