Vishwakarma Puja 2024
Vishwakarma Day, Vishwakarma Jayanti, or Vishwakarma Puja is a day of worshipping the God of architecture and engineering Lord Vishwakarma who is the creator of the whole universe.
Vishwakarma is one of the demigods who is associated with the process of building beautiful palaces for the Supreme Lord, Sri Hari, and the demigods. He created the holy city of Dwarka where Krishna ruled, the Maya Sabha of the Pandavas, and was the creator of the many fabulous weapons for the gods. He’s also known as the divine carpenter, is mentioned in the Rig Veda, and is credited with Sthapatya Veda, the science of mechanics and design.
Vishwakarma Puja is celebrated on the day of Bhadra Sankranti which is the last day of the Bengali month Bhadra. It usually falls on 16th-19th September every year and also a day after Diwali along with Govardhan Puja. It is celebrated with a lot of devotion throughout the Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Karnataka, Assam, West Bengal, and Tripura. The festival is also celebrated in the neighboring country Nepal.
In 2024 Vishwakarma Puja will be celebrated on Monday, 16th September.
The day is celebrated not only by the engineering and architectural community but also by artisans, craftsmen, mechanics, smiths, welders, industrial workers, factory workers, and others. On this day all the factories and industries have a no-working day with a lot of rituals and ceremonies are held where whole families of workers can participate.
Beautiful pandals and decorated idols of Lord Vishwakarma can be seen with the whole staff and workers gathering to perform the puja. The whole factory is cleaned and decorated. Even the tools used by every worker are worshiped and are not used until the coming day. Every professional should worship and seek the blessing of Lord Vishwakarma to bestow professional skills and talents on all of us.
