Sawan Somwar 2024 – Greetings, Wishes, Quotes, Images
Sawan / Shravan month is the fifth and most holy month of the Hindu Calendar dedicated to Lord Shiva and falls in July-August according to the Gregorian calendar. All the major events related to Lord Shiva are believed to have happened in this month of Sawan. As per Purnimant’s calendar, Shravan begins on 22nd July and the first Shravan Somwar is on 22nd July, 2024.
Sawan Somwar is of great significance for the Shiva devotees, people fast on Monday in the month of Shravan, especially women, for the well-being of their spouse and household. Many unmarried women also observe the Somvar Vrat in the month of Shravan to be blessed with a good husband and a happy married life. The belief is that by observing the Somvar Vrat with deep dedication, a girl can get married to a person of her choice.
Devotees also participate in Kanwar Yatra during this month to fetch holy water from the Ganga to pour it on various Shiva temples in India. Devotees store holy water of river Ganga in pitchers and carry it on their shoulders on a small pole made from bamboo. On the day of the Shivratri festival, the holy water is offered to Lord Shiva on his Shiv-linga.
