Puli pongal / Tamarind Pongal
Puli means ‘Tamarind’ and Pongal is mashed up rice. Puli Pongal is made with broken raw rice and tamarind
Ingredients:
- Rice 1 cup
- Tamarind one small cup
- Urad Dal 1/2 Tsp
- Channe Dal 1/2 Tsp
- Mustard Seeds 1/4 tsp
- Red Chillies 2
- Curry leaves few
- Hing a pinch
- Turmeric powder a pinch
- Salt
Method:

Grind the raw rice so it gets broken and keep it aside.

Soak tamarind in hot water and squeeze out the tamarind juice. Tamarind water should be twice the rice portion.

Now heat ghee in a cooker and add mustard seeds and let it splutter after it adds urad dal, channa dal, red chilies, asafoetida powder, and curry leaves.

After frying the masala add the rice and tamarind juice, turmeric powder, and salt and mix well now cover the cooker and cook for 2 whistles. Rice should not be overcooked and taste great with raita.
