(I Salute) Sri Gajananam ( Who is having an Elephant Face ), Who is Served by the Bhuta Ganas (Celestial Attendants or Followers) and Others, Who Eats the Core of Kapittha (Wood Apple) and Jambu (Rose Apple) Fruits, Who is the Son of Devi Uma (Devi Parvati) and the Cause of Destruction of Sorrows, I Prostrate at the Lotus-Feet of Vigneshwara ( the God Who Removes Obstacles ).

Sing (gayiye) the praises of ganpati, who is worthy of being bowed to/prayed to (vandan) by the entire world (jag). He is the son (nandan) of parvati (bhavani) and the brilliance (suvan – means the sun literally) of Siva (Sankar). He is the embodiment/residence (sadan) of accomplishment (siddhi) with a handsome (sundar) elephant (gaj) face (vadan), the destroyer of obstacles (vinayak), and the repository (sindhu) of compassion (kripa). His services are useful (layak) for everyone (sab). This lover (priya) of sweet-meats (modaka) is the bestower/giver (data) of joy (muda) and auspiciousness (mangal), He is the bestower/creator (vidhata) of intelligence (buddhi), and an ocean (varidhi) of skill and knowledge (vidya). Tulsidas (the composer) asks/requests (mangat) with arms (kar) held together (jode) in supplication for ‘ram and sita (siya) to reside (basahu) in my (more) mind (manas) forever’.
