Facebook is back online
Facebook along with Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Oculus VR are down. The entire company network is suddenly offline from noon ET according to the site Downdetector.com, and there is no sign of restoration. The outage is affecting billions of users and millions of advertisers.
On Twitter Facebook communication exec Andy Stone tweeted.

Facebook has experienced the same type of outage with its apps in March and July, but this outage seems to be the worst Facebook outage ever. Users saw the message “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”
The global social media giant said that it had started its restoration services but this seems to be the longest outage ever. Loads of people heavily depend on Facebook (or Instagram or WhatsApp) and must be trying hard to load them. Facebook Shares are down more than 5% in midday trading on Monday, which is the worst trading day in a year.
The early report suggests that the downtime could be an issue due to DNS issues. Meanwhile, WhatsApp has also issued a statement on Twitter saying that it is aware that some people are expecting issues with WhatsApp at the moment and the company goes on to say that it is working to get things back to normal and will send an update on Twitter as soon as possible. Facebook and Instagram too have issued similar statements. The global downtime isn’t just affecting the three services directly there are also apps that are related to Facebook that are affected by this outage.
When Facebook goes down a lot of the economy goes down with it. There are a lot of advertisers who pay Facebook and the company earns between $8,000 and $10,000 per day. But when its network is down then that day revenue is a big zero, a big loss for the company.
People who weren’t able to access the services of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram rush to Twitter within minutes, and hashtag #Instagramdown, #Facebookdown, #WhatsAppdown is trending on Twitter now.
Twitter seems to be celebrating the outage as people are flocking to Twitter looking for updates about when the outage will be over. Twitter is having a blast with this and several hilarious tweets can be seen on Twitter regarding the news.

Jokes aside, there is no confirmation from the company when the sites will be back or what is the cause of the network outage.
