Chia Seed a Super Food of 21st Century
Chia seed is one of the most popular superfoods on the planet. They are loaded with nutrients and antioxidants.
The people of the ancient Aztec and Mayan empires revered Chia seeds as vital nourishment. One tablespoon of Chia seed was believed to sustain an individual for 24 hours. These mighty seeds are packed with antioxidants, omega 3s, protein and fiber and are making a comeback in the 21st century.
Chia seeds are edible and come from the desert plant Salvia hispanica, a member of the mint family. When added to water and allowed to sit for 30 minutes, chia form a gel.
In the past few years, its popularity is growing among health-conscious people, it is the best source of several important nutrients. Chia seeds have a bland flavor because of which you can add it to almost everything.
You can eat it raw, soak it in your juice, make a smoothie, use them in baked food, yogurt, oatmeal or even sprinkle them on top of any vegetable or rice dish.
Popular Recipe using Chia seeds
Chia Lemonade
Ingredients
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 liter Water
3 lemons freshly squeezed
sweetener of choice sugar / raw honey/ sugar-free
Soak chia seeds in the water for an hour after they turn gelatinous.
Mix everything and drink your way to a healthier slimmer you. Keep refrigerated.
Chia smoothie
Take around a big cup of hung curd or milk (whatever you prefer) add 1 and a half tbsp oats in it.
Add 1 tsp chia seeds in this, keep it aside for an hour.
After this put a fruit of your choice like 1 apple, half papaya, or 4-5 strawberries in the mixture.
Give it a blend of the mixie and your smoothie is ready.
Chia Pudding
1 cup Almond milk/Whole milk
2 Tbsp sugar,
1Tsp vanilla extract,
2 Tbsp of yogurt,
1/4cup of chia seeds,
Mix everything and keep aside for 15 mins.
For Mango Almond
1 cup of Mango pulp you can add cardamom for more flavor and 1/2 cup chopped mango. Fill the jar half with chia seeds pudding and half with mango pulp top it with chopped mangoes and almonds.
For Chocolate Strawberry
In the basic pudding, I also added 1Tbsp of cocoa powder to give chocolate flavor. Layer the jar with chia pudding and chopped strawberry. Top it with chopped walnuts and chocolate shavings.
You can also use different fruits and flavors like apple- cinnamon, pineapple-coconut, banana-chocolate, oranges, or any other fruit of your choice. Also, you can add 2 Tbsp Oats to make it more filly.
Chia Oatmeal
Ingredients
1 bowl of hot oatmeal
2 tbsp chia seeds
2 tbsp coconut butter
1 tbsp honey
Sprinkle all ingredients over oatmeal stir and savor.
Chia Juice drink
1 tbsp chia seeds
8 oz favorite juice
Add chia seeds to juice, and wait for 15 minutes, and it’s ready to drink and enjoy.
