Bill Introduced in U.S. to Cut Immigration by Half
Two Republican senators proposed a bill to cut the legal immigrants entering to USA by half. According to new bill proposed the number of immigrants to U.S. will be slashed from 1 million to 500,000.
The bill, “Reforming American Immigration for Strong Employment Act” (RAISE Act). It will limit the number of family based visas and only spouse and minor children of permanent citizen can get green card. Exception is given for elderly parents in need of caretaking would be able to come but they will not be allowed to work.
This will include measures like cutting the way by which relatives can be brought into the country, and eliminating the visa lottery system. Refugee program will be limited to 50,000 from currently 84,995 refugee during Obama presidency. There is no mention for visas specifically tied to employment like H1B visas, which are used by technology companies to hire foreigners.
Republican President Donald Trump have made a promise during his campaign to shield immigrants, and have issued a Immigration ban for temporarily banning people from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Sudan, Somalia, Libya and Yemen to enter US. While the said order have been lifted by a Judge and President Trump Tweeted.
