Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, KCIE (known as Sir MV, 15 September 1861 – 12 April 1962) was an Indian engineer, scholar, statesman, and Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918. He played an important role in the making of Modern India and was the recipient of the Bharat Ratna, the highest honor of the Republic of India, in 1955.
He was knighted as a Knight Commander of the British Indian Empire (KCIE) by King George V for his public good. He was the chief designer of the flood protection system for the city of Hyderabad and also during the construction of the Krishna Sagar Dam in Mysore.
He played an essential role in many civil engineering and public works projects across undivided India. Internationally recognized for his genius in harnessing water resources.
